64% Disagree With Pres. Obama and Say Border Is Not Secure

After Pres. Obama's immigration speech in El Paso claiming that the border was essentially secure, a new poll reveals that 64% of likely voters don't think the border is secure. The poll is consistent with government reports from earlier this year that found that DHS has only 44% "operational control" of our Southwest border with Mexico.

In the upcoming weeks, the SAVE Act will likely be introduced in the House and Senate. This comprehensive enforcement bill combines increased border security with mandatory E-Verify. The bill received bi-partisan support in each of the last two Congresses with more than 100 co-sponsors.

PRESIDENTIAL GRID UPDATES: In case you missed Roy's alert from earlier this week, we've updated our 2012 Presidential Hopefuls' Immigration Grid. We've added Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, and former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum.

Most of the Hopefuls have poor grades, but a significant portion of their grade is due to their inaction on immigration issues. Activists in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada should have lots of access to the candidates over the next several months. If you're interested in attending a candidate appearance and asking him/her about immigration issues, please complete our short survey at the top of your Action Board and email us at stateaction2010@numbersusa.com.

IT'S GRADUATION SEASON: Millions of Young Americans across the country already have or will earn their degrees this month. But a startling, new report from Rutgers University found that only 53% of college grads from 2006-2010 currently have a job. Current federal policies that authorize another 75,000 foreign work visas every month are making it even harder for our youngest workers to find a job.

We've posted a new fax on your Action Board asking Republican U.S. Senators to resist an aggressive effort by at least one GOP Senator who is shopping around a new version of a DREAM Act amnesty. If you live in a state that is represented by two Democratic Senators, you won't see this fax.

    Thanks,
