Election Season Beginning to Heat Up

Several new polls show continued support for the immigration enforcement bill in Arizona, while concerns over illegal immigration continue to grow nationally. A Gallup poll from this week revealed that Americans rank immigration fifth on a list of important issues. It's the highest immigration has rated since the 2007 Amnest y battle - just in time for the mid-term elections.

Election season is beginning to heat up with several states holding primaries on Tuesday, May 18. This past week, we saw two long-time incumbents get knocked out, including Sen. Robert Bennett (R-Utah) who didn't receive the necessary votes at the state convention to enter the primary and 14-term Congressman Alan Mollohan (D-W.V.) who lost his primary bid. Both Members had poor immigration-reduction grades.

Voters in Pennsylvania, Arkansas, and Kentucky go to the polls on Tuesday. Senators Arlen Spector (D-Pa.) and Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) face tough primary battles, and Kentucky voters begin the process of replacing retiring Senator Jim Bunning.

IF YOU WORK OR VOLUNTEER FOR A CANDIDATE running for a local, state, or national office, please print out the appropriate Immigration-Reduction survey and urge them to return it to us, so they can be properly represented on our campaign pages.

We recruited more than 350 new volunteers last week for our Local Power Team's 8-week campaign called "S.T.O.P. Amensty in 2010! Countdown to Independence Day." The program’s focus is to make sure Members of Congress are hearing from their constituents who oppose Amnesty while back in their home districts. This weekend, for example, we have nearly 50 people attending Sen. John McCain’s town hall meetings.

We need at least 10 more volunteers in the following states: Arkansas, California, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, and Virginia. Please email Jenny@NumbersUSA.com to join.
