Secure the Border: Call Senate and express outrage at $3 billion in funding being cut from DoD bill

Always be polite. You can make a very effective phone call by simply stating your name, where you are calling from and a few brief talking points.

Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121

Tell the staffer that:

1) You are very disappointed with the House-Senate negotiators' decision to remove the $3 billion in funding for border security out of the Department of Defense Appropriations bill (H.R. 3222).

2) Congress is long overdue in providing the full funding for the many border security measures we have been promised over the years.

3) You expect the senator to do everything he/she can to ensure that the $3 billion in funding passes as part of some other bill before the end of the year.

Talking point: The Senate's overwhelming vote to provide $3 billion in funding required to secure the border looks like another empty gesture at this point. The Senate has passed amendment after amendment to provide for border security, but the full funding never reaches the President's desk.

Talking point: It has been six full years since the attacks on September 11, and there is still no commitment from Congress to fund the security of our borders.

Talking point: This is why Congress has such low approval ratings. You promise time and again to enforce the laws and secure the border, but you make sure the money is never provided to actually do so.

Talking point: The American public already lacks faith in this Congress' ability to secure the border and enforce our laws. The conferees have done little to restore the public's faith by removing the funding to provide the enforcement we have been asking for.
