    Stop S.O.P.A/I.P.A

THE GOVERNMENT IS COMING FOR THE INTERNET!

HELP US STOP AN INTERNET TAX AND AN ASSAULT ON FREE SPEECH AND ENTERPRISE!

States are looking for revenue ... the federal government is looking for revenue ... so their newest target is the WORLD WIDE WEB.

As you read this, more than 30,000 state and local governments and 7,600 taxing authorities are chomping at the bit, searching for loopholes that will enable them to open up the Internet to oppressive taxation and regulation before November 1st, 2014.

That is because in 1998, President Bill Clinton signed the Internet Tax Freedom Act into law. The Act prevents governments from taxing internet-only activities such as bandwidth, email, or from putting multiple taxes on any kind of electronic commerce. In other words, it protects your online behavior from becoming a revenue source for state and local government.

But, the Internet Tax Freedom Act was not made permanent, which means Congress has to periodically extend it...and, the current moratorium on taxes is set to expire on November 1, 2014.

Please join our e-mail campaign and help NoInternetTax.org keep the internet safe from greedy bureaucrats. We have prepared a letter for you to send to America's fifty governors and every Member of Congress, opposing internet taxation. We are working to educate consumers across America about this important issue - and we ask for your urgent participation as we work to stop an internet tax. Don't think for a minute that because the moratorium is in effect that this issue is going away. It isn't.

Barack Obama and his liberal friends want to continue their spending free-for-all, and they don't want to have to buckle down and control their budget. So, they are trying to get around it.

And now some in Congress, backed by the powerful Hollywood lobby, are pushing Congress to pass HR 3261, the "Stopping Online Piracy Act (SOPA)," and its counterpart in the Senate, "Protect IP," which will LIMIT Internet freedom and commerce, and put our First and Fourth Amendments in serious jeopardy.

SOPA and PIPA are nothing more than a backdoor way of opening up the Internet to government control and taxation.

Although Congress is revisiting the language in SOPA and PIPA, our campaign against internet taxes and internet control is continuing. Because, bureaucrats will do what they can, however they can, to get more and more revenue for their reckless spending sprees.

Work has already begun at both the state and federal levels to find new ways to tax your online activity.

AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL - Senator Dick Durbin introduced the "Main Street Fairness Act" earlier this year ... Obama's overreaching FCC is working on all kinds of internet regulations ... Hollywood is pushing its Stop Online Piracy bill ... and we can expect more activity of this kind in 2012.

    AT THE STATE LEVEL
    - The National Governor's Association has introduced an unconstitutional "Streamlined Sales Tax Project" (SSTP). Under this proposal, a "national collection center" would be established to monitor and audit your internet purchases. Your personal information and Internet shopping habits will be stored by a "trusted third party" or government body. Or, states can subscribe to a national "cartel" tax collection system - which in essence, will mean a NATIONAL SALES TAX!

WARNING: Do you want the government collecting and storing your personal information, as well as data on your shopping habits, and finances? Do you want a national sales tax? Do you want every aspect of your online activity to be subject to a tax?

This debate is not about tax or no-tax, because YOU ALREADY PAY TAXES ON THE INTERNET. It is taxed in the same way that catalogues, mail order and TV sales are. Every time you access the internet you are paying telecommunication taxes. But, a significant number of online purchases, such as travel and financial services, are services not subject to sales tax in any form - electronic or otherwise.

This debate is about the collection of usage and sales taxes. It's about more, more and MORE.

More Big Brother. More government. More regulation. More control.

IF YOU DO NOT PROTEST THIS, your apathy opens the door to every taxing entity not only in your State or country to slap a tax on you, it opens the door for every world entity - including the United Nations - to claim that your online activities are open to their greedy pockets.

And, if SOPA and/or PIPA pass Congress, the government can claim that a website they disagree with is "dangerous" or "pirated" ... and it can be shut down. We need to be diligent and make sure our online activities are free from government control.

NoInternetTax.org opposes any kind of internet tax - and we need your help to PROTECT THE INTERNET from burdensome regulations and unnecessary taxation!

    NoInternetTax.org believes:

The moratorium on Internet access and discretionary taxes should be made permanent.
Taxes on Internet access are regressive by nature and only serve to widen the Digital Divide.
The United Nations, World Trade Organization and European Union have no right to try to impose or collect taxes on U.S. citizens.
The Streamlined Sales Tax Proposal, supported by the National Governor's Association, is unconstitutional and violates consumer privacy through its "national collection center" which stores personal information and Internet shopping habits.
EVERYTHING is on the table. Think about all the ways YOU can be TAXED for your online activities: things like downloads, email, e-Commerce purchases, MP3 files, broadband access, ISP access are all up for grabs ... every aspect of the internet is going to be fair game.

Don't let them open the door. If you don't raise your voice in opposition today, who knows what they will tax tomorrow.

Click here to send your letter to America's governors and every Member of Congress, telling them you OPPOSE any form of government control over the internet.

    SOPA and PIPA will:

Kill Innovation-no one will want to navigate the legal minefield created by SOPA, so many people will just not bother with their website start-ups
Reduce Job Growth-fewer sites being created means fewer jobs for Americans
Stifle Free Speech-censorship will end our First Amendment rights
Restrict Truth-citizens simply trying to speak the truth about the government or political figures may be reported as engaging in unlawful activities
Deny Justice-without due process, anyone can kill a site by claiming is is "rogue"
Give the Obama administration more power over American citizens-this is one more nail in the coffin of our freedoms under the Obama dictatorship
    Let's take back the internet!

Durbin's Act isn't fair. SSTP isn't fair. Taxing the internet would not be fair. Controlling free speech and allowing sites to be shut down without due process would not be fair. But, nothing in Obama's dictatorship has been fair.

These dangerous bills will result in the END of tax-free shopping online as we know it...and they will force a slew of new government regulations into play, every time you want to make an online purchase or simply surf the Web for information.

Help us keep the internet free from government control. Sign our No Internet Tax letter today!

    Sincerely,

    Alan Gottlieb
