Virginia Legislature Approves Tougher E-Verify Law

Virginia Legislature Approves Tougher E-Verify Law

Tuesday, March 1, 2011, 1:32 PM EST - posted on NumbersUSA

Before wrapping up its 2011 legislative session, the Virginia Legislature approved several immigration-enforcement measures, including an expansion of the state's current E-Verify law and a bill that would require the Department of Motor Vehicles to cancel a state ID or driver's license for known illegal aliens. The bills are expected to be signed into law by Governor Bob McDonnell.

SB1049 requires all public contractors and their subcontractors to register and participate in E-Verify to determine that their employees and individual independent contractors are legally eligible for employment in the United States. Contractors and subcontractors are required to verify the employment status of their employees and independent contractors, and are prohibited from employing or contracting with an individual who is not determined to be legally eligible for employment in the United States as determined through the verification of the individual's status. Contractors who do not register and participate in the registration program are ineligible for prequalification.

The bill improves current Virginia law that requires only state and local agencies to use E-Verify, however, a bill passed by the House would have required all employers in the state to use E-Verify. The House bill failed in a Senate Committee.

Also passed by both chambers is HB1651 that requires the Department of Motor Vehicles to cancel any license, permit, or special identification card for any individual determined to be not a U.S. citizen or legally present in the United States.

Three other bills will also head to the governor's desk, including a bill that makes it a crime to create and sell fake birth certificates and a bill that requires the Secretary of Public Safety to share information with border states to help track gangs, terrorists, or other illegal activity.

Re: Virginia Legislature Approves Tougher E-Verify Law

ICE needs to show up at every Home Depot parking lot every day and check citizenship of the hoards waiting to be picked up by crooked traitors! How hard of an enforcement would that be?? But then again, Obama would accuse ICE of "racially profiling"!
<div>"Diversified"*does NOT*mean invading*our Country and forcing their culture and language,**stealing jobs,*using fake ID',s, living on government benefits, and flying their flag over ours! </div>
