After an investigation into the sale and distribution of cocaine from the state of Texas to Orleans County, two men were arrested late last week in what has been called “one of Orleans Counties largest cocaine seizures.”

On Friday, authorities pulled over a car was on East Avenue in the Village of Albion, said Joseph F. Sacco, supervising investigator for the Orleans County Major Felony Crime Task Force on Monday.

After a sniff test by the Albion Police K9, Rex, a search warrant was obtained and one kilogram of cocaine was found hidden in an engine compartment. The cocaine has a street value of over $150,000.

Police arrested Daniel Guzman, 29, of Houston and he was charged with felony first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Also charged was Luis Alberto Sanchez-Garza, 31, of Mexico, who faces a third-degree charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance, also a felony.

Guzman and Sanchez-Garza were arraigned before Justice Gary Moore in the Town of Albion Court and ordered to be held without bail in the Orleans County Jail. A return court date was set for Tuesday.

This investigation, handled by the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office, Albion Police Department, and the Genesee County Sheriff Department, is ongoing and further charges are pending, Sacco said.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration also assisted in the investigation.
