$6.7 million in drugs seized by Border Patrol

EDINBURG — U.S. Border Patrol reported seizing more than $6.7 million in narcotics on Monday and Tuesday in various seizures.

In total, authorities seized more than 5,500 pounds of marijuana, 50 pounds of cocaine and 340 ounces of heroin that were turned over to other agencies for further investigation.

One of the larger seizures was reported Tuesday near Fronton when agents saw several men carrying bundles of marijuana. When the agents approached, the men fled into brush area leaving behind more than 650 pounds of marijuana.

In a similar case, also on Tuesday, agents near Garceno seized 360 pounds after smugglers dropped their load and fled into brushy area.
