U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley recovered almost $8.5 million in marijuana in several busts between Tuesday and Thursday morning, a news release from the agency states.

A total of more than 10,000 pounds of pot was seized in those 2 1/2 days.

The largest seizure came in La Rosita on Tuesday, when agents actually saw a vehicle being loaded with pot, according to the release. They followed the vehicle to a house in the area, where they seized more than 2,800 pounds of the drug, arrested four suspected smugglers and seized two vehicles.

Agents also made seizures of 1,700 and 1,800 pounds on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, inside tractor-trailers. The tractor-trailers were attempting to pass through the Sarita checkpoint on U.S. Highway 77.

The body of an unauthorized immigrant was also found Wednesday on a ranch near Falfurrias. The cause of death appeared to be heat-related, the release said.
