Todd Palin backs Newt Gingrich

Palin, husband of the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, told ABC News that he respects Gingrich and can sympathize with the scrutiny he endured while House speaker in the mid-1990s.

"He's going to be speaking out on behalf of my candidacy and I really appreciate that," Gingrich said at a Rotary Club event in Nashua, N.H.

Palin told ABC that Gingrich is not one of the typical "Beltway types." He said he believes Gingrich has "burst out of the political arena and touched many Americans."

Sarah Palin, a former Alaska governor who is popular among Tea Party conservatives, told Fox News in mid-December that she wasn't yet feeling any enthusiasm for the GOP candidates and wasn't ready to make an endorsement.
