PEARL, Miss. - Pearl Police say they detained 11 illegal aliens who were from Guatemala and Mexico during a traffic stop on Interstate 20 on Thursday.

Police say around 9 p.m., they pulled over the vehicle and discovered that the passengers inside were not U.S. citizens. Local authorities say they contacted U.S. Immigration & Custom Enforcement and Homeland Security.

During the investigation, officers found that four of the illegal aliens had been deported previously from the U.S. and another person had a previous felony conviction of trafficking cocaine in the U.S.

Police say a 7-year-old child was also in the vehicle.

A previously deported illegal immigrant with a criminal history in the United States was detained Tuesday in Pinal County, along with six other illegal immigrants, authorities said.

William Funes-Texin, 19, of El Salvador, was detained by the Pinal County Sheriff's Office after a high-speed chase near Eloy, a city about 60 miles southeast of Phoenix, according to a Sheriff's Office statement issued Friday and a complaint filed in federal court on Thursday.

Funes-Texin was convicted in May 2013 of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, battery on a police officer and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, according to the complaint. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge sentenced Funes-Texin to 365 days in jail and three years probation for each criminal conviction, the complaint said.

Funes-Texin was on probation when an immigration official in the Valley ordered he be removed from the U.S. and returned to El Salvador in March, the complaint said.

Pinal County officials say Funes-Texin was a passenger Tuesday night in a Ford Expedition driving westbound on Interstate 10.

A deputy began following the Expedition after noticing that it appeared to have an unspecified equipment violation, according to a Sheriff's Office statement.

The driver of the Expedition began driving erratically upon noticing the deputy and reached speeds of 90 mph, the statement said.

When the Expedition left the freeway, ten people fled from the SUV by jumping into an irrigation canal, according to the statement. Three people, including the driver, got away.

The remaining seven passengers, including Funes-Texin, were detained and turned over to U.S. Border Patrol, the statement said.
