11 suspected illegal immigrants detained after short chase in Fort Bend County

BEASLEY, Texas—Friday gave a glimpse of what law enforcement sees every day, as deputies in Fort Bend County took 11 illegal immigrants into custody.

A deputy noticed a Ford F 350 speeding north up Highway 59 near Hungerford just after 10 a.m.

A chase ensued, and the truck eventually pulled off into a ditch at Darst Road in Beasley. Deputies said a number of illegal immigrants jumped out and began running.

Within an hour, they had nine adults and two adolescents in custody. Deputies were not sure they caught everybody. Because of that, they formed a perimeter and spent hours combing the wider region.

They drove through fields and thick woods. They sent in dogs and carried big guns, and they ultimately covered miles of rural ground in search of more suspects.

The 11 they did catch were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

There were later calls up the road in the 26200 block of Highway 59, where people reported suspicious individuals.

Deputies said they could be connected to those arrested today and that they may not have caught everyone.
