Guatemala is calling on Washington to free up billions of dollars in funding pledged in aid to curb illegal immigration to the U.S.

Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales said Friday his nation hasn’t yet received “a penny” of $2.6 billion the U.S. pledged for Alliance for Prosperity program, intended to boost development and cut crime in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, and thereby reduce the number of people fleeing northward. The U.S. is putting onerous conditions on disbursing the funds, he said.

"Not even Switzerland could comply with conditions they have given us" for releasing the funds, Morales said during an interview in Washington.

Guatemala itself has invested $2 billion under the program, he said. Morales said the country could use the money to invest in infrastructure and create jobs for thousands of potential migrants. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol says it detained nearly 43,000 family units from Guatemala at the southwest border in fiscal year 2018, up from 24,657 the previous year.

Morales is a close political ally of President Donald Trump’s administration, and even followed Washington’s lead in moving its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Despite this, he said tariffs imposed by the Trump administration are harming Guatemala’s small steel industry and his government will lobby to for concessions, similar to those granted to Argentina. The U.S. is Guatemala’s biggest export market.

Judy's Plan B in play on aid!! I LOVE IT!! Maybe someone in the White House DOES still read our forum. Well, thank God for that one if they do.

You meet ALL THE CONDITIONS outlined or you will not receive one penny. Switzerland doesn't invade our country illegally, you three countries do and we've had it, we're done. If you don't stop this scourge of illegal aliens invading our country from yours, you will not receive a penny of aid from the US and then we'll move on your .... TRADE. This is your problem to solve, because these are your citizens insulting, robbing, assaulting, and burdening our nation with their illegal activities for no legal reason or valid purpose whatsoever.

So, stop whining and get to work meeting your many conditions to stop illegal immigration by your citizens into the United States.

Department of Homeland Security Hosts Central American Countries for Security Day

    Release Date: October 12, 2018

Today, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen M. Nielsen hosted the second day of the Conference on Prosperity and Security in Central America, which focused on improving citizen security and safety in Central America. As part of the conference, Secretary Nielsen and Mexican Foreign Secretary Videgaray met with leaders from Northern Triangle countries in Washington, D.C., including Minister of Government Degenhart of Guatemala, Secretary of Security Pacheco of Honduras, and Minister of Justice and Public Security Landaverde of El Salvador.

Throughout the day's sessions, discussions focused on security cooperation, stemming the flow of illegal migration, combating organized crime and gangs, and enhancing regional and citizen security.

Secretary Nielsen recognized the efforts being taken by the Northern Triangle governments to strengthen security in the region. In the area of narcotics trafficking, one of many subjects the leaders touched upon today that affects security in the region was that much of South American cocaine bound for the U.S. travels through Central America. As part of the Department's commitment to stopping the flow of illicit drugs crossing our borders, Secretary Nielsen committed to continuing to work with these countries to address drug trafficking.

Additionally, the leaders discussed the flow of illegal immigrants from Northern Triangle countries. Since 2014, when nearly 52,000 children from the Northern Triangle region of Central America made the dangerous journey alone to the U.S. border, the U.S. government has worked with the governments of the Northern Triangle to address the root causes of illegal immigration to the United States. By reducing crime and violence, addressing corruption and impunity, disrupting the activities of transnational criminal organizations, and providing citizens in Central America with greater economic opportunity, the United States is helping to foster an environment where families can envision their futures in their home countries and communities.

During the working sessions, Secretary Nielsen thanked all of the Central American leaders for their continued partnership as we work to build a secure and prosperous Central America. Secretary Nielsen also reaffirmed her commitment to fighting human smuggling organizations and transnational criminals who continue to do harm to Central American families and children.

For more information on the joint progress since the 2017 conference and the agreements to expand cooperation over the two-day Conference on Prosperity and Security in Central America, please see the U.S. Fact Sheet here.

We have trade surpluses with these 3 Central American countries, so I have no problem returning a little of that back to them IF THEY USE IT to meet the conditions for stopping illegal immigration into the US by their countries. They must do it from their end, their side, their soil. They must and they can. Trump just needs to bring the hammer down and make it clear to them what is required which Trump and his team appear to be doing. They need to know it's not negotiable. It's a MUST DO deal.
