Suspected illegal immigrants had nowhere to run. Federal agents swarmed a pickup as it sat on Interstate 10 stuck in traffic. In all, a dozen suspected illegal immigrants were detained including the driver. Authorities caught up with them when their truck got stuck in a traffic jam due to an accident up ahead near the Cortaro Road exit.

Like a scene out of a movie agents with U.S. Customs Border Protection jumped out of their Department of Homeland Security Helicopter and ran across the east bound lanes of I-10. They surrounded the truck on the other side of the freeway filled with suspected illegal immigrants. Most of them packed into the back of the white Ford pickup. An alert motorist spotted the truck and called the U.S. Border Patrol.

Within minutes, agents aboard a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter spotted the truck stuck in traffic. They landed about 100 yards off the frontage road and ran to the truck surrounding it. With their weapons drawn they ordered everyone out. No one got away and agents say they detained the suspected driver who is now facing several felony counts of human smuggling.
