14 RI residents deported under immigration program

14 RI residents deported under immigration program

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- New figures show more than 60 percent of the illegal immigrants living in Rhode Island who were deported since the state enrolled in a controversial immigration program did not have criminal records.

U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement data shows 14 people who were arrested by local police have been deported since the state joined the Secure Communities program in March. The numbers cover March 22 to June 30.

ICE classifies nine deportees as "non-criminal immigration violators" because they were arrested for a minor offense, did not have a criminal record and broke a federal immigration law.

Figures show two deportees had violent criminal histories. The numbers also show three deportees had misdemeanor convictions.

Under the program, fingerprints of detainees arrested locally are shared with federal immigration authorities.

No criminal records? How do we know what records they have in their home countries?? We don't because they were never vetted! As far as I'm concerned, all illegal aliens are criminals!

The fact they are here illegally should be the Criminal mark on their record that allows swift and sure deportation.

Oh, the thought of someone here illegally is deported but has no criminal record. They would have been escorted home if caught along the border. The word has long been out that if they get past our Border Patrol they're probably home free as long as they stay out of trouble. Something really wrong with this picture.
