PALM BEACH —

Nineteen people, suspected of coming ashore illegally this morning in Palm Beach, are now in U.S. Border Patrol custody, authorities report.

That group includes two Bahamians and 17 Haitians who are believed to have come from the Bahamas, said U.S. Border Patrol Operations Officer Frank Miller.

The Border Patrol had been on the lookout for the boat after being tipped off by Bahamian authorities, Miller said. The boat landed on the island’s north end about 3 a.m.

Two people were injured when they jumped off the boat and ran from authorities, Miller said. They were treated and released back into Border Patrol custody.

The search for others who may have come ashore continues.
