BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - There has been an increased number of firearms seized at the U.S.-Canadian border over the past month.

Since May 1st, 18 weapons have been seized at the 16 northern land border ports from the Peace Bridge in Buffalo to Rouses Point, N.Y. The weapons were seized either from Americans crossing back into Canada or citizens from other countries crossing into and out of the U.S.

Several of those who had their weapons seized were arrested for processing by local and state authorities. All of the weapons seized were handed over to local and state law enforcement agencies.

Rose Hilmey, Acting Director of Field Operations for the Buffalo Field Office, said that “preventing the illegal importation and exportation of firearms is an important role in protecting the public and the country.”

Some of the firearms include revolvers, an automatic pistol, and various handguns. In the photo provided by the Buffalo Field Office, a weapon is seen mostly hidden underneath a car seat.

The Field Operations arm of U.S. Customs and Border Protection is responsible for safeguarding all of the points of entry into the U.S.
