Illegals using fire to clear border

Illegals using fire to clear border

    ONLINE EXCLUSIVE / 5 p.m.
U.S. Border Patrol agents seeking to secure the nation's border in some of the country's most pristine national forests are being targeted by illegal aliens, who are using intentionally set fires to burn agents out of observation posts and patrol routes.
The wildfires also have resulted in the destruction of valuable natural and cultural resources in the National Forest System and pose an ongoing threat to visitors, residents and responding firefighters, according to federal law enforcement authorities and others.
In the Coronado National Forest in Arizona, with 60 miles of land along the U.S.-Mexico border, U.S. Forest Service firefighters sent in to battle fires or clear wild land fire areas are required to be escorted by armed law enforcement officers.
Armed smugglers of aliens and drugs have walked through the middle of active firefighting operations, the authorities said.
The Border Patrol's Tucson, Ariz., sector, which encompasses most of the Coronado National Forest, has the highest incidence of cross-border violators in the nation. Nearly 500,000 illegal aliens were apprehended last year -- more than 30,000 a month. In addition, nearly 100,000 pounds of marijuana, with a street value of $200 million, was seized as it was hauled through the Coronado National Forest.
Last month, the Border Patrol -- in a single operation targeting illegal aliens causing what Forest Service officials called "significant damage" to the Coronado National Forest -- apprehended more than 300 illegals along just a three-mile section of Arizona-Mexico border and confiscated 600 pounds of marijuana in a 10-day period.
At least five fires were set below a Border Patrol observation post during the operation in an effort to burn the agents out, according to a Forest Service report. The fires were extinguished, and no one was arrested.
Wildfires are being set by alien and drug smugglers, authorities said, to create a diversion in an attempt to gain undetected access across the border. The fires correspond to a dramatic rise in assaults against Border Patrol agents -- up more than 100 percent over last year.
"Criminal activity by both illegal immigrants and citizens in forests near the border is a threat to members of the public trying to use their public lands and to our employees trying to manage these lands," Tina J. Terrell, a Forest Service supervisor told a House subcommittee in May.
She said law enforcement personnel have been assaulted, threatened with weapons and shot at, and their vehicles have been rammed by cross-border violators. Because of the remoteness of the area, she said, timely assistance from other law enforcement agencies is not always possible and communications limitations and active interference with radio frequencies in Mexico create additional safety risks.
"Even normal enforcement duties bring our officers in regular contact with cross-border violators," she said. "Our officers risk their lives every day to enforce the law in these remote federally managed lands."
The Coronado National Forest is not the only area along the Arizona-Mexico border being targeted for wildfires. Other blazes also have been set, including two this month near the San Luis, Ariz., port of entry as the result of Molotov cocktails -- one of which barely missed a Border Patrol agent.
Authorities said agents are being targeted by illegal aliens and their smugglers for rock attacks -- including grapefruit-size rocks wrapped in rags, dipped in gasoline and set on fire.
"As larger areas of the border come under operational control, we can expect violence to increase as smuggling operations can no longer operate with impunity and do not have unfettered access to the border for their criminal activities," Border Patrol Chief David V. Aguilar told a Homeland Security subcommittee this year.
"This explosion of aggression is an indicator how desperate and angry drug and human traffickers are at the increasing disruption of their smuggling routes," he said.

I think we have two wars going on at the same time. One in Iraq and one on our borders. Do you think Washington is trying to pass this bill because we don't know have enough National Guardsmen to put on our borders and protect us? Do we really know the numbers of the Guards in each state left? Do we really know the consequences of each major city if we start deporting?
I am wondering if this could be behind the Bush madness.
Maybe there really are 20 or 30 million and not the 12 they are reporting.
I bet Bush and Mexico know the real numbers.

Does President Bush think with news stories like this that there are men and women now jumping at the chance to become BP agents? or that he'll get enough recruits for his 10,000 extra BP agents promised in this amnesty bill?
Especially since seeing how the existing ones are getting the shaft?
If this is how they act just to get here imagine what it will be like if they are made to leave!

Yeah, and if there is really only 14 million people in this country who speak Spanish as their primary language (less than 5% of the population), then why is everything in Spanish now? Why would they make everything bilingual for 5% of the people?

Or could it be because there is actually 60 million people who speak Spanish? The big corporations know something that is being purposely hidden from the general public!

We could be in big trouble here, bigger than what we know. There is a reason for all this. How do you really know how many are here when they really don't exist? We also have violent gangs in each city. They outnumber the police and also these cities have lost there National Guardsmen. The National Guard is to protect us here at home and they have been sent off like crazy with this new Iraq surge. We have lost many here in Utah and some are on there second run with this surge. I think I smell a big rat in office named Bush. Is there anyway we can find out the correct numbers on how many illegal's are here? Michael Savage says 20 million. That is 4 times the amount of the population of Utah.

Hosay- I know this sounds a bit conspiracy theory-ish but do you think everything put in spanish on packaging is just a way to slowly get us desensitized/acclimated to whats really going to happen?
I mean if they really are only a small fraction of the population why bother? or do they (manufacturers) know something we don't?
    Just a thought.
PS I bought a "made in China" product recently that was packaged in english and spanish.

You guys may be a little slow to the table but the food is still warm. Very warm! Just remember, they tougher the meat the more you have to chew it...that's all! I'm reasonably sure we are not the only ones who have considered the possiblities...or maybe the facts? It's been out here in plain sight for a long time.

Oh, you forgot to mention the street gangs like MS-13 who are sending members into the military to learn urban warfare tactics and how to handle military style munitions. Sorry to heap worry upon worry but the situation is serious if you crunch the numbers.....

Let's just worry about defeating this disasterous bill and get those borders closed for now!

Bush said 12 million in 2003 Read the articles.

Let's be clear. The Mexican government openly supports illegal immigration. It prints pamphlets like the "Guide for the Mexican Migrant," an invasion handbook which advises Mexicans on how to "safely" and illegally cross the border without being caught. The Mexican Army forcefully, successfully and often brutally repels poorer people from Central American countries trying to cross into Mexico illegally from the south, but on our border the Mexican Army attempts to intimidate U.S. Border Patrol agents and aid Mexicans in crossing the border illegally, not to mention its involvement in narcotics smuggling. The Mexican government and its corrupt, anti-free market economy is doing a miserable job creating jobs and increasingly relies on billions of American dollars sent home by illegals each year. Calderon may be a better, more moderate alternative than his leftist opposition, but it is hard to call him a partner.

The Mexican government is a vocal supporter of amnesty. As a result of amnesty, the Mexican government could influence U.S. immigration policy from within with an enormous, unified voting block putting Mexican interests ahead of American interests.

Another kind of invasion ‘never ends’ by accelerating into the United States of America today. It’s the Trojan Horse of immigration. While our soldiers give their lives in order to free a nation that smells more like the futility of Vietnam, we lose our freedom by the day via a pernicious invasion of unending humanity.

Unrestricted illegal and unending legal immigration at 2.1 million annually inundates America with a betrayal that will prove more horrific than 9/11 and equally as devastating as the Vandals that overran Rome. If S. 1348 passes, it means 100 million people added to America by 2040.

We possess the greatest army in the world, yet while our soldiers die 10,000 miles away, our borders buckle with enemy combatants more deliberate than “The Last Samurai.â€
