Squinting as dusk sets in over the Mexico-U.S. border, Georgia Prentice reaches for her binoculars while sitting in the comfort of her 4-by-4 truck. She's one of about 15 members of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps of California spending Easter weekend in the desert. She became involved last year.
"This is America; this is the way I inherited it and by golly until they put me in the ground, this is the way I am going to help it to stay."
She and her late husband, George Carrington, adopted their son, Tom, 17 years ago, when he was 4. His father was a non-citizen from Mexico.
"People will look at me and say I'm racist but I don't really think I am. I don't think I would have adopted a child of Mexican heritage if I felt bad about Mexicans."<div>"True patriotism hates injustice in its own land more than anywhere else."
