    Help me please?

Would somebody like TMS go to the Denver Post website and find the article on the Catholic Church and their Centro Juan Diego that caters to illegals. The article was in the July 12, 2205 issue. I am having trouble linking it and posting it properly.

The article says the church is going to spend more money on the center.
This center has had Small Business Administration meetings there to give our tax dollars to whom? We saw the SBA advertisement on local Spanish television. If nobody asks ICE for verification why should we not believe they get government money illegally? This SBA official on Spanish telelvision was Hispanic speaking in perfect Spanish. IF they are legal I have no trouble with this but I know Centro Juan Diego caters to illegals one fellow involved in this told me in an email that the center is to "...help immigrants get a leg up in this country..."!

Somebody supposedly gave the church an anonymous 1 million dollar donation to upgrade this center......who was that I wonder...? Archbishop Chaput, who is part Indian BTW, seems to pick what law he supports and does not!

Somebody please link the article? Thx!

Archdiocese to fund Latino center renovation
    By Eric Gorski
    Denver Post Staff Writer

The Denver Roman Catholic Archdiocese announced Monday that it has committed $900,000 to complete the renovation of a former school that houses Centro San Juan Diego, a 2-year-old resource for the region's growing Latino population.

The money will help finance the second phase of a $2.4 million renovation of the former Sacred Heart School at 28th and Lawrence streets, a late-1800s- era landmark that saw its last student in 1979 and fell into disrepair in the years that followed.

"We have the resources, we have the will, and we're going to do it," said Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput, who made the announcement at a special meeting of the center's advisory board. "That's a lot of money for the church."

Centro San Juan Diego provides social and spiritual assistance to Spanish-speakers, including courses in citizenship, English, computers, homebuying, finance and more. The center has served more than 1,200 clients this year, said Mar Muñoz, its executive director.

An anonymous donor contributed $1 million to the first phase of the project. The second phase, which will involve adding classrooms and office space as well as refurbishing the exterior, will allow the center to serve more people and expand its menu of programs.

For example, the center is planning a "pastoral institute" that will train people to work in Hispanic ministry at parishes and help smooth relations between white and Latino parishioners.

About 21 percent of registered Catholics in the 24- county Denver Archdiocese are Latino, up from 12 percent in 1992, officials say. Both numbers are thought to be low because Latinos - especially new immigrants - are less likely to register. The actual number could be 40 percent, based on national studies.

The project's second phase will include replacing the building's exterior windows, which will be paid for with a $200,000 grant from the city of Denver.

The work is expected to be completed in 14 months.
