One of Laredo’s most wanted fugitives was located by the U.S. Marshals in Guanajuato, Mexico.

David Cruz a former Border Patrol agent was arrested back in January of 2008 for conspiracy to transport illegal immigrants for financial gain.

Cruz was working with Border Patrol in the Laredo sector and resigned in September of 2007.

After pleading guilty, Cruz was sentenced to serve 50 months in federal prison and ordered to surrender to the New York metropolitan correction center in October of 2008.

Cruz fled and failed to surrender.

U.S. Marshals in Laredo and Los Angeles located Cruz in Guanajuato, Mexico.

His wife Susana Lopez Portillo and a third suspect Bertha Esquivel were also arrested.

David Cruz and his wife were the owners of downtown restaurant known as Burger Patrol.

The restaurant raised many eyebrows when first opened.

A mannequin of a Border Patrol agent could be seen outside the business wearing the former agents uniform.

In fact, many believe the entire restaurant seemed to parody the work of the Border Patrol and its policies.
