    .

Gilbert police on Thursday arrested two women, who they say robbed a 56-year-old woman of her purse and assaulted her and another woman who came to her aid.

Police were seeking Aleshia Gomez, 29, of Tempe, and Stephanie Uriarte, 34, of Tempe, since late Wednesday morning, when one of the women allegedly assaulted the 56-year-old Mesa woman and stole her purse in a shopping center parking lot at 1121 East Baseline Road.

A 64-year-old woman, who is also from Mesa, saw the incident and intervened, police said. She attempted to take one of the suspect's car keys to keep them from leaving the area.

Gilbert detectives tracked Gomez and Uriarte to a home in Tempe, Gilbert police said.

Tempe police watched as the women left the home. The officers then stopped their vehicle and held the pair until Gilbert police arrived.

Gomez and Uriarte were booked into the Maricopa County 4th Avenue Jail on suspicion of robbery, aggravated assault, fraudulent use of a credit card, taking the identity of another and disorderly conduct.

An earlier online story had indicated a man was a suspect in the attack, but that was not the case.

The 64 year old women trying to help the victim out sounds like my Mother. At least what she would do to. Except my mother carries pepper spray and a .38 Ruger Revolver. She is looking into a taser as well.

oh yeah...I forgot to mention our newspaper very rarely mentions their race if they are Hispanic but if they are white or black its an almost certainty they will list that. Thats because they are an illegal alien supporting news paper.

as much as i hate to agree with you , i must .... they will list suspect descriptions for anyone else , but hispanic indviduals unless it's a very SERIOUS crime , like murder , or a serial rapist , most of the time they ingnore the criminal descrption ... they will mention what was worn by the robber or attackers , but oddly won't mention the race ..
