Kennedy: It's a new year, but reaction to births shows same old hate

Yet some people already hate him.

Baby Justin was the first newborn this year at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. His mother is 15 and in the eighth grade.

She lives with her parents and the father. He’s 20.

Within hours, readers on news Web sites were already writing about how much they loathe Baby Justin, and his mom, and his dad.

Some of the writers even signed their own names.

They resent Baby Justin for being Hispanic.

They don’t even know him or his family, but they call him illegal and a foreigner just because of his surname.

They say he’s not even entitled to grow up as an American, even though Justin was born right here in Texas.

One East Texas lawmaker must really hate babies like Justin. He has already filed a bill to refuse birth certificates to lots of babies by next New Year’s.

The writers also despise Baby Justin’s mom, Fernanda Rios. They call her a "lawbreaker" and "trash" and a "leech" for being poor and having a baby in the county hospital.

They hate his dad most of all.

They call him a criminal.

All this because a young couple who made life-changing mistakes decided to keep the baby and raise him together.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m worried about Baby Justin, because no baby should have a 15-year-old or an eighth-grader for a mom.

There is more than one way to prevent that, and somebody should be teaching our sons and daughters, particularly when more than half the teenage girls in poor families are getting pregnant before age 20.

But Baby Justin is not evil.

He is our fellow American.

Someday he might fight for our flag, or serve in Congress, or grow up to be a firefighter or law officer who saves lives.

Whatever he grows up to be, he will help pay the taxes to bankroll future Social Security payments and public healthcare for the aging baby boomers, who didn’t beget enough children to replace the population or sustain the economy.

Baby Justin doesn’t deserve to be called names like "illegal" and "welfare baby" and others less printable, as he was in some of the more than 200 comments across local newspaper and TV Web sites.

On our own Web site, "fripper1," writing from a Watauga address, complained that "my tax dollars are going for some illegal’s birth."

Obviously, fripper1’s American education failed to teach him the U.S. Constitution. By two decisions of the Supreme Court, any baby born in the United States is an American, not "some illegal."

"Knvsmom," writing from a Yahoo e-mail address called "hotlegs_99" in Cleburne, wrote sarcastically, "I guess in Mexico they don’t have statutory rape laws?"

I have no idea about Mexico. But Texas law says that voluntary sex is OK for a married couple, no matter the age. If this couple weren’t living with her parents and planning marriage, the father might face charges for sex with a girl more than three years younger.

But the couple seem to be belatedly trying to do something right, and since they might legally marry with a court order under Texas law, I doubt prosecutors would spend taxpayers’ money on the case.

The most spiteful comments were by "midcitiesyj," a Hotmail user in Hurst complaining about a baby with a Hispanic surname at John Peter Smith Hospital who was the region’s first born in 2009, winning the 29-year-old mother a half-carat diamond earring set in a Zales Jewelers promotion.

He wrote, "This is pathetic, the news covering illegals . . .  It’s just a guess but if she doesn’t speak ENGLISH and she is in JPS Hospital that they are both illegal aliens. They should be DEPORTED IMMEDIATELY."

Folks, 4 out of 6 Hispanic residents in Texas are Americans. They’re not foreigners. And 2 million legal Texans speak mostly Spanish.

It might be a new year.

But it’s the same old hate.

Dallas’ Parkland Memorial Hospital didn’t have to wait long to welcome the first baby of 2009 — a baby boy named Justin Daniel Ramirez arrived at 12:16 a.m.

Justin’s mom, a 15-year-old Dallas eighth-grader named Fernanda Rios, couldn’t stop smiling as she cradled her new son in her arms Thursday morning. “I was nervous at first about what my mom would say, but I told her I would try my best and she said okay,â€

Fix the anchor baby law in the 14th Amendment.

It's also statutory rape, with parental consent. That girl should be in protective custody.

A recent study indicates that half of all Hispanics in Texas are illegal aliens. A portion of the legal residents are anchor babies.

The first baby in our area was hispanic also. Were they legally present in the United States? The family was showered with all kinds of free gifts and rewards, and if they were illegally here they took a great moment away from an American citizen family or someone who entered the legal way.

The local county health department is filled with many pregnant women suspected to be illegally in the United States and getting free medical care courtesy of American citizens. This continued pattern will financially cripple or bankrupt many more medical facilities. Plus, our insurance rates are constantly increasing to cover the uncompensated care.

Exactly. I was astonished when I took my daughters to middle school. There are some girls in there that are far more physically developed than others. I could have sworn they should have been in highschool or older, and certainly behaved like they had it goin on. Even though I'm not so sure they really understood what all they had going on. LOL

There were a number of boys who now have records as sexual predators because they didn't know and the girls sure weren't telling them the truth of their age. They were playing with fire and then when they got caught or felt guilty for their behavior, they cried victim.

There are men out there who are just sick perverts and there are women out there playing just as bad a game.

In the paper the other day there was a report of a 14 yr old who was shot because she was out at 2 am with a friend. They don't know if it was gang related or not......but please....14 yr.old out at 2 AM? On a school night to boot? Where are the parents?

I just e-mailed the story writer "Bud" to ask him why the "father" hasn't been charged with child rape and if he'd do a follow-up story on that aspect...

To obtain a marriage license you have to present a birth certificate right? You have to document who you are. How do these people get away with this? And if she's 15 her parents will have to give consent for her to marry. So THEY should have to present documentation too. At a minimum an immigrant should also have to prove legal residency or present a visa, even a Visa to visit this country to get married here if they aren't citizens. This guy should be prosecuted as a child molestor. And she and her parents should be deported NOW!

Government officials breaking the law in the country. Treason? Do not vote for sale tax increases. :wink: 8) We have to cut funding every way possible. In my area recently the local government wanted to raise the taxes for public schools. It did not pass.

But the Congress is getting their pay raise of over $4,000. Some children do not even getting child support equal to $4,000 annually.

Unless these anchor babies stop being granted US citizenship, no amount of border sealing, workplace verification, etc. is going to do much good. The closing of hospitals, the overcrowding of schools and so much more is due mostly to shucking out billions for the care of anchor children and their illegal alien moms. They will never leave America, regardless of the job situation, because the free benefits come no matter what.

Hell yes I hate,I hate our so called elected leaders that let this non sense continue.

Here are the problems I immediately see here:

1. 15 years old is kind of old to be in the eight grade, but not surprising when she is probably an illegal alien.
2. The father is 20 years old. In Texas it is against the law for a 20 year old to have sex with a 15 year old. Why is this 20 year old not being prosecuted by the state?
3. Why did the parents not insist charges be brought against a man who had sex with their 15 year old.
4. Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas is similar to Ben Taube in Houston. This is where people go who have no insurance and no financial way to pay. Thus, the tax payer gets stuck with the bill.

Now why is this idiot of a reporter BUD KENNEDY not surprised people hate? Our economy is down the tubes, unemployment is at a 60 year high. Our schools and public services are running out of money. Illegals are taking jobs that Americans need and draining our public services to the point we all almost have nothing left. So we have no right to hate? Ridiculous! These types here, both illegal and citizens are the reason this country is failing. We are all fed up with people taking and taking and never giving anything back.

Any person that comes over this border without having the proper documentation is a CRIMINAL. Any adult that has sex with a minor is a pedophile which is a crime in this country. So this makes the father a CRIMINAL. He should be sitting behind bars waiting on a trial by Americans just like us.

As for the 15 year old, no child at this age should be allowed to have any kind of relationship with a 20 year old. Where were the parents? Why are they not taking responsibility for their own child? They should also be in jail for allowing this to happen and their 15 year old daughter should be removed since they have put her in danger.

Now the hate towards the new born....naturally taxpayer knows what is coming. We know that we will pay the cost of raising this child, all medical expenses and probably pay for this child making the same mistakes his mother, and grand parents have.

I have news for this idiot BUD KENNEDY, planning marriage is not marriage. Since they were not married there can be no consensual sex between a 20 year old and a 15 year old. This is a CRIME in the State of Texas. Texas Penal Code � 21.11 defines the offense of "indecency with a child." For purposes of that statute, a "child" is a person under age seventeen. The offense can be committed by sexual contact or exposure, and the statute covers both consensual and non-consensual conduct.

If she had the baby at 15 the chances are good that he was having sex with her when she was 14. Where is Child Protective and the Police?? Why is he not in jail for statutory rape?

I subscribe to the weekend edition of the Fort Worth Star Telegram. Bud Kennedy is the biggest idiot they have. For YEARS he has been writing this garbage. Everytime he posts one of these pro illegal alien stories, he gets HAMMERED with e-mails, and the Sunday opinions sections is packed full of letters from citizens bashing Bud for favortism for illegals over citizens. Why didn't the school report rape?

I had a family emergency recently and had to leave my 17 and half year old daughter home alone with money, credit card, car here in North Carolina. Guess what? Social Services came to my house the day I returned home. Started telling the law. I asked to have the law sent to me. And that I would publish it in the newspaper and on the internet with my story in this situation. And of course I promised not to let this child stay in our two big dogs and security system home alone without an 18 year supervising her. Case was closed (solved), I guess they did not want to go to court.

If they are PLANNING marriage, then they are not married and were not married when she became pregnant.

That's called statutory rape in these here United States, and is punishable by jailtime and Megan's Law sanctions.

Bud answered my e-mail telling me that they hardly ever file charges against the fathers there in Texas. Maybe this time they should make an exception and set a precedence!
