Immigrants Rally Against Slave Labor

IMMOKALEE, FL -- Immigrant workers turned towards Florida's Legislature to help stop modern day slave labor.

Dozens of immigrant workers and their families traveled from Immokalee to show us how some of the say they're treated in the fields. They used props and acted--in a silent theatrical demonstration--to show us how they are chained inside truck, beaten in the fields, and often times they are not compensated for their work.

"There are cases of modern day slavery happening in the fields and these cases of slavery have their roots in the conditions of exploitation that are the norm here in Florida," said Meghan Cohorst, event coordinator with the Student Farm Worker Alliance. "You have conditions where workers haven't gotten a wage increase in over 30 years, you have cases of violence in the fields, workers who are essentially treated not like human beings but like tools for the agriculture industry to use up and then throw away."

This student-organized coalition is trying to raise awareness. They want the Governor to use his power, authority and investigative teams to stop these slave-like conditions and punish those who take advantage of this system.

Oh give me a break! I can also use props and act in a presentation about how my family was murdered and I was raped, killed and dismembered by some illegal. Not really, but you get the drift.

That is the first time I have ever heard of stuff like that happening to farm laborers. And I guess they just go home at the end of the day?

It's called ENFORCING THE LAWS against illegal immigration. That'll stop employer abuse, plus heavy fines/jail time.

Either way, illegal aliens need to get out of this country! They put themselves in the position to be abused, all the while abusing us taxpayers. Enough is enough. DEPORT!!!
