3,470 Central American children and families are being deported

How many Central American children and families are being deported?

    Bob Ortega, The Republic | azcentral.com 4:57 p.m. MST November 12, 2014

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement has not released data for the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30. From July 18 through the end of September, immigration judges ordered the removal (that is, the deportation) of at least 1,035 unaccompanied minors, with most of those children coming from Honduras, Guatemala or El Salvador. Immigration judges also ordered the removal of at least 2,435 "family units," or parents with children, during that same time period.

    Border Crisis

Over the past month, Arizona Republicreporters and photographers walked the graffiti-strewn streets of El Salvador. They traveled on rafts across the Guatemalan-Mexican border and sat with children in shelters in Reynosa, Mexico, the last stop before the Rio Grande. They talked to those offering food and water to migrants at a bus station in Phoenix and stood between groups of protesters in Southern California who wanted new migrants kept out — or let in.

Hear from the children. Get the facts. Discuss solutions. Read more here.

Very few of those children and families were represented by attorneys. Children as young as three years old have appeared in immigration court without an attorney, in effect representing themselves.

Statistically, nine out of ten children without an attorney are ordered removed. About half of children with representation are granted asylum.

After ICE opened an immigration-detention center in Artesia, N.M., in June, 135 family members held at the center were deported in the first two weeks, versus 12 who were released pending hearings.

That would be about .11% of just the number that came in late Summer.

Court hearings are just getting underway. There is a backlog for months and months of hearings. Stay tuned for more happy deportation articles.

Everytime I read one of these deportation stories I want to vomit! These numbers aren't even a drop in the bucket compared to those who entered illegally during those dates! We've been losing ground ...... well, since 1986.

It used to be that any article about any illegal aliens getting deported got comments about "Good work Border Patrol" or "Good work I.C.E." but every deportation article now brings nothing but negative comments like no one here wants to see any illegal aliens deported anymore.

(Yes. we all know more could and should be done but why try to see how unhappy we can be all of the time because we can't be happy about any illegal alien being deported.)

I think that it's something else. For one thing, the numbers are essentially meaningless. There are "illegals motels" on the other side of the border. Illegals lay up there, until they can sneak back in.

For another, 'Bama is preparing to create another wave of illegals who will flood into this country and undercut Americans for jobs. If the Repubs don't man up, the poorest Americans will be pushed aside and condemned to another generation of confusion and anger.

It would be great if we could celebrate deportations, but we can't, IMO.

I appreciate your efforts of finding and posting this information. However, I just see the information as meaningless because the numbers are extremely insignificant. For example, let's assume I had a dog with 2000 fleas and I removed 100 (5%) of them. I'll bet the dog won't even noticed the difference and I'm darn sure he won't be any happier. Oh, and I'm not blaming ICE or BP because it's not their fault. ICE and BP agents are federal employees that fall under the leadership of the Department of Homeland Security. Of course we all know the head of DHS is a political appointee of Obama's.

My comments are nothing personal, JohnDoe, it's just that seeing such insignificant deportation numbers agitate me to no end! I'm guessing that is a boat I'm not sailing in alone.

You can make yourself as miserable as you want to be over something that you have no control over or you can be happy about the little things that happen that you like.

I'm going to be happy every time anyone deports any illegal alien.

You go ahead and make yourself miserable, just don't try to take me down with you.
