U.S. immigration officials raided several Mississippi food processing plants on Wednesday and signaled that the early-morning strikes were part of a large-scale operation targeting owners as well as employees.

MORTON, Miss. (AP) — A spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says nearly half of those arrested during the largest immigration raid in a decade in the United States have been released.

In an email Thursday, Bryan Cox said more than 300 of the 680 people arrested Wednesday have been released from custody. He says about 30 were released at the plants and about 270 others were released from the military hangar where they had been brought after the raids to be processed.

He did not say why they were let go except to say those released at the plants had been let go due to "humanitarian factors."

He said they "were placed into proceedings before the federal immigration courts and will have their day in court at a later date."

Officials had said Wednesday that they would release detainees who met certain conditions, such as pregnant women or those who hadn't faced immigration proceedings previously.

ICE Releases 300 of 680 Illegals Detained in Mississippi Raids

    August 8, 2019

    Cristina Laila

Approximately 300 of the 680 illegal aliens detained in massive ICE raids in Mississippi on Wednesday were released the same day, reported the Clarion Ledger.

Approximately 30 people detained Wednesday were released at the same site they were detained on “humanitarian grounds,” according to a press release issued Thursday by Mike Hurst, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi, and ICE.

Another 270 were released after being processed by Homeland Security Investigations on Wednesday. Those 270 were taken back to where they were initially detained, the release stated.

“You are going to have persons released,” he said. “ICE makes custody determination on a case-by-case basis based on the totality of their circumstances.”

According to the Thursday release, “all those detained yesterday were asked when they arrived at the processing center whether they had any children who were at school or child care and needed to be picked up.”

Seven food processing plants were raided by ICE agents Wednesday evening and 680 suspected illegals were taken into custody.

It was the largest workplace enforcement actions in the nation’s history, according to a statement released by the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Southern District of Mississippi.

Jackson, Mississippi Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba immediately posted a plea for churches to give sanctuary to illegal aliens in the wake of ICE raids on several chicken processing plants.

And now nearly half of the illegals detained have been released back into the US population.

This catch & release crap is ridiculous and it obviously extends well beyond our borders!

I can't believe being pregnant is considered a legitimate excuse for release of an illegal alien. Those pregnant should be moved to the front of the line for deportation so they can be deported before the birth of their welfare baby!

It has always been a myth that illegal aliens can't get welfare, as every day, in every state, pregnant illegals receive taxpayer funded prenatal care , and taxpayer funded hospital births. They claim single motherhood, even though they likely live with the illegal father who is making money. These people know how to scam the system , and now their offspring, bestowed with U.S. citizenship , are eligible to vote in our elections.
