The same pattern is repeating from 2015 when over 75,000 Hondurans were deported.

More than 4,000 Hondurans have been deported from the United States and Mexico this year, adding to the tens of thousands who have been sent home in the past months after trying to flee violence and poverty in Honduras.

The new numbers were released Saturday by the National Migration Institute and the non-government organization Center for Returned Migrants (WARC).

According to the new figures, Mexico has deported the majority Hondurans, sending some 2,232 undocumented Hondurans home – 2,044 men and 288 women.

The United States has deported some 1,738 Hondurans so far this year. Those numbers are also expected to increase after the Department of Homeland Security Secretary launched a nationwide campaign in 2016 to raid the homes of undocumented migrants in the U.S. and enforce mass deportations.

In the last months of 2015, the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama had increased the pace of deportations of undocumented Central Americans, averaging some 14 flights a week of deportees.

Mexico has also upped its deportations
over the past year, sending 24,000 people back to Honduras between the months of June and November of 2015, according to figures released by the local migrant rights organization, the International Verification Mission, or MIV.

MIV also criticized local governments for not respecting human rights in how they deal with migrants, most of whom have been forcibly displaced due to violence or poverty.

In 2015, the number of Hondurans deported from the U.S. and Mexico exceeded 75,875, according to figures by WARC, who works directly with returned migrants.

Protesters Block Downtown Traffic, Demand End To Deportations

    February 16, 2016 8:34 AM

CHICAGO (CBS) — Protesters demanding an end to deportations shut down Congress Parkway on Tuesday, blocking traffic outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office.

Police were rerouting traffic exiting the nearby inbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway shortly after 8 a.m., after a few dozen protesters linked arms to block the eastbound lanes of Congress at LaSalle Street, just outside an ICE field office at 101 W. Congress Pkwy.

Several protesters set up two ladders to hang a banner reading “Dismantle ICE, Defund The Police!”

The group Organized Communities Against Deportations, which helped organize the protest, was calling for an end to all deportations and immigration raids.

The protest was causing major traffic backups on the inbound Eisenhower, which ends at Congress and Wells Street, a block west of the protest site.
