Hey was there a baseball game at Wrigley Field the day of the protest? Maybe a couple of illegals were walking past the stadium at the end of the game when the crowd from the stadium were exiting. There's your 40,000 protesters! :D

This July 1, 2005 story in the Chicago Tribune discusses the "rally".
Immigration rally brings Minuteman issue to head
This statement was on page 2 of the story:
Quote:
Although organizers predicted about 1,000 participants, independent observers counted far fewer than that, raising criticism that the whole operation was merely a stunt to generate publicity.
Thank you Zorch. Can we have a link to that. What a big bunch of liars! They are trying to encourage others, I bet the Spanish media has run with the 40,000 lie to try and stir things up and say "come on out ye illegals!"

Speaking of La Raza--the head of that "esteemed" group was on Lou Dobbs last night. Poor Lou!!! He was having a hard time being civil to her. She did NOT mention the number of people at their "meeting" and she would NOT say that she did not agree with ILLEGAL immigration. Lou appeared flustered again. I know he has to give a LITTLE equal time to groups like this but he needs to get TOUGH with them.
I'll believe it happened only when a somewhat credible news outlet reports it. Until then, it's they're fantasy.

They chanted at full volume, “¡Si se puede!, ¡Si se puede! (Yes, we can!; Yes we can!), holding signs that read, “Minutemen: Human Rights Violators; “We want recognition as workers: we are not terrorists; “We demand the right to get work permits and “Stop Deportations.
"Yes we can" -- that's because the government allows it. Aliens, legal or illegal, have no "rights" in any country. Aliens from Mexico have the same rights in the United States that American aliens do in Mexico under the "law of nations" -- nothing more and that "right" does not include making demands of the government
