Forty-eight people suspected of being in the country illegally were found at three different stash houses Wednesday afternoon by Customs and Border Protection officers working with agents with ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations, plus local constables and sheriff’s offices.

The largest bust occurred about noon in the 400 block of Cheyenne Street in Pharr, where 31 people were taken into custody, said CBP spokesman Enrique Mendiola.

About the same time, eight people were found in a house in the 400 block of Rio Grande City Circle in Alamo.

About 1 p.m., nine people from Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico were discovered at a house in Brownsville.

Investigators have yet to determine whether the three cases are related, Mendiola said.
