503 expatriates deported for serious traffic violations

‘Smart’ patrol cars to track down motorists

KUWAIT CITY, May 9: Security sources have revealed that 503 expatriates have been deported so far for committing serious traffic violations including driving without drivers’ license, crossing red signal, reckless driving and illegally taxiing passengers, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.

Reportedly, a Saudi national, two Qatari nationals and three Emirati nationals were deported recently for driving recklessly in the rain two days ago.

Meanwhile, the General Traffic Department (GTD) will use 100 smart patrol cars to ease procedures in tracking down motorists who violate traffic regulations, reports Al- Rai daily quoting sources from the Interior Ministry.

Sources revealed this came after the department succeeded in the experimental operation of 10 smart patrol cars as part of the ministry’s plan to use the latest technology in improving services.

Sources said the ministry currently owns 20 smart patrol cars and it will acquire 100 more, indicating these vehicles are equipped with the most advanced gadgets. Sources added the new technology has the capacity to record the plate number of a car and check the data through a certain program to identify motorists who violated traffic regulations within seconds.

Sources went on to say the vehicles have a video and audio recording system to document the discussion between traffic officers and those who violate traffic regulations; in addition to a radar for the registration of the plate number of speeding cars and the actual speed. Sources disclosed the ministry intends to introduce the smart car patrol system in all governorates by 2015.
