AZ-14 suspected illegal immigrants found in home

14 suspected illegal immigrants found in home
    by Maria Polletta - Jul. 31, 2009 01:40 PM

Two suspected human smugglers have been arrested after a tip led state Department of Public Safety officials to a Phoenix drophouse Thursday evening.

The tip said four gunmen were holding up to 20 immigrants inside the home, near 35th and Dunlap avenues, according to DPS spokesman Bart Graves.

After surveying the home, officials arrested one suspected human smuggler after he left the home on foot, Graves said. The second suspect was arrested following a traffic stop.
Inside the home, officers found 14 suspected undocumented immigrants. The 10 men and four women were from Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Honduras, officials said. No one required medical attention.

Graves said the windows of the home were fortified with boards and plywood. A handgun and human smuggling ledgers were found inside.

DPS officials said it appeared the home had been operating as a drop house for sometime.

An investigation into the incident is being handled by IIMPACT, the area's multi-agency Illegal Immigration Prevention Apprehension Co-Op Team.

That is close to the Sheriff's Dept. I used to drive to work by there and in the morning you could see the illegals coming out to work the corners. I wondered how it was that so many could do that so close to the Sheriff's Dept. The state ties Joe's hands behind his back. He could probably clean this city up in about six months if they would turn him lose.

It's so bad in Phoenix and Arizona in general.
