THE BROWNSVILLE HERALD
The bodies of two men with "numerous" gunshot wounds were discovered Thursday night along FM 511, according to Brownsville police.
Friday morning authorities recovered the truck the alleged gunman used to get away.
Cameron County Sheriff’s Department deputies found the bodies after spotting a light gray Dodge Ram near the U.S. Border Patrol station east of Old Alice Road in Olmito.
Deputies first suspected they had stumbled upon a traffic accident. Instead, they found the truck with several bullet holes.
Inside, authorities found the bodies of two Hispanic men who had been shot "numerous times," Brownsville Police spokesman Eddie Garcia said.
Garcia confirmed that at about 8 p.m. Thursday, police were called to the scene to assist in the double homicide investigation.
The headlights of the truck were still on when investigators arrived.
Justice of the Peace Linda Salazar says one of the victims, Jose Guadalupe Lopez Perez, 38, was shot in the face and body numerous times.
The other man, Omar Castillo Flores, 25, was shot on the chest.
According to Salazar, the Dodge Ram pickup the men were driving was shot from behind several times and when it stopped on the median, the unknown assailants got out of their truck and "finished them off," Salazar said.
The judge said one of the men had a small amout of cash, at least one $100 bill and a few smaller bills.
Brownsville police secured the scene and closed eastbound lanes of traffic on FM 511 between the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department station and Paredes Line Road in order to conduct the investigation.
Friday morning authorities recovered a late-model Chevy Silverado at a home near Tree Line Avenue and Cedar Trail Avenue, which is near Alton Gloor and Paredes Line Road.
There were no witnesses "at this time," Garcia said.
