U.S. Border Patrol agents stationed at Brownsville’s Fort Brown station apprehended four alleged smugglers and seized more than 300 pounds of marijuana early Wednesday.

Authorities said the apprehension and seizure were made possible with the help of infrared technology.

An agent using an infrared device spotted several individuals paddling an inflatable raft that was loaded with marijuana across the Brownsville Ship Channel, the Border Patrol stated in a press release.

The individuals fled on foot when approached by the agents. After a brief pursuit, the four people were taken into custody, the release said.

Authorities reported that agents found several bundles of marijuana with an estimated street value of $240,000.

The marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
