    Representatives of the National Organization for Migration in Guatemala (MENAMIG) reported that during 2012, the US deported 40,079 Guatemalans. 2,747 are women, and 586 are children.

    The immigration officials stated that the deportations of undocumented Guatemalan immigrants from the United States increased 27% in 2012, compared to 2011. According to the Foreign Ministry, 1.3 million Guatemalans, 60% of them undocumented are currently living in the US.

    According to MENAMIG studies, each person pays from $ 3,500 to $7, 000 to the coyotes to take them across the border. Usually the family acquires the debt and has to pay it of.

    The General Direction of Migration informed that in 2011 a total of 30,855 undocumented Guatemalans where deported from the USA.

    Guatemala has asked the US for Temporary Protection Status many times, but it as been always denied.
