OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Seventy-five immigrants, living in the U.S. illegally, from seven countries were arrested by federal officers with U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in North Texas and Oklahoma during a four day enforcement action, which ended Thursday.
Those targeted by ERO deportation officers had prior criminal history according to ICE that included convictions for drug possession, assault, illegal entry, larceny, and failure to identify among other crimes.
During the enforcement action ICE officers arrested a Honduran man who was arrested for first-degree rape of a minor child and a Mexican man convicted for two counts of possession of intent to deliver a controlled substance.
“The operations that our ICE officers perform provide a vital public-safety benefit to local communities by removing criminal aliens from the streets,” said Marc J. Moore, field office director of ERO Dallas. “These operations also help maintain the integrity of our immigration laws.” The Dallas area of responsibility includes 128 counties in North Texas and Oklahoma.
ICE said all of the targets in this operation could be arrested and removed under the U.S Immigration and Nationality Act.
During the operation ICE arrested 58 Mexicans, six Guatemalans, six Hondurans, two El Salvadorans, one Kenyan, one Ecuadoran, and one Vietnamese.
