75 in Illinois swept up in national dragnet for illegal immigrants

UNDATED U-S immigration officials have arrested nearly 21-hundred illegal immigrants across the country in a blitz that began May 26th.

Officials with U-S Immigration and Customs Enforcement today said those arrested include 75 people in Illinois.

Authorities say the raids are aimed at child molesters, gang members and other violent criminals, as well as people who sneaked back into the country after a judge threw them out.

The crackdown is called Operation Return to Sender.

Among those arrested in Illinois was a 53-year-old Jamaican record producer who was deported in 1994 and re-entered illegally and a 45-year-old Chinese man who was convicted in 1998 of being part of a gang that kidnapped 16 people in New York for ransom.
