NOGALES, Ariz. -- Border agents in the southeastern Arizona city of Nogales have seized nearly 3,000 pounds of marijuana hidden in a shipment of watermelons.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers said Friday that officers intercepted the pot on Wednesday.

The agency says that a 27-year-old Mexican man tried to enter the U.S. at the Nogales port of entry when his truck was pulled aside for an inspection.

Officers then found 128 packages of marijuana hidden among bins of watermelon in a trailer being hauled by the truck.

The agency estimates the pot's value at nearly $1.5 million.

Officers seized the marijuana, truck and the trailer, and the driver was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
