With America facing a surge of 80,000 violent criminals on its streets, the U.S. House of Representatives has approved a plan that would enlist as many as 700,000 state and local law enforcement officers in the battle.

The 277-140 vote, according to plan sponsor U.S. Rep. Charlie Norwood, R-Ga., affirmed the authority of state and local law enforcement officers to enforce federal immigration laws while in the course of their regular duties such as traffic stops and drug arrests.

"The margin by which this bill passed sends an unmistakable message to the Senate from the people's House that the nation demands action on this issue," Norwood said. "All across America, people have witnessed horrific crimes committed by criminal illegal aliens, who were released on our communities because we failed to enforce immigration laws."

"We currently have roughly 5,000 federal agents trying to apprehend 500,000 illegal aliens with court orders against them. Eighty-thousand of them are serious felons, such as murderers, drug dealers, child molesters, and rapists," Norwood said on the floor of the House. "Those odds are impossible. But if we allow our 700,000 state and local police to volunteer to help, the odds get a lot better."

He said that might just start the pendulum swinging the other way – toward enforcement of immigration laws.

"And that undermines the illegal immigration lobby's theme song, which is the lie that we can't stop illegal immigration so we may as well give in," he said. "We're not talking about going after illegal aliens who are otherwise obeying our laws and are just here to work. This bill is targeted only on criminal aliens. Ironically, most of their victims are their fellow immigrants."

Norwood earlier said the National Council of La Raza had been campaigning hard against the plan to provide funding, training and resources for state and local law enforcement agencies who help federal officers in capturing and detaining criminals who are illegal aliens.

"For those who haven't figured it out yet, the entire illegal immigration crisis we suffer is due 100 percent from failure to enforce existing law," Norwood said. "The other side (including La Raza) knows this very well, and knows that the continued suppression of U.S. law enforcement efforts is essential to permanently destroying our borders."

John Stone, a spokesman for Norwood's office, said about the criminals and violent individuals targeted by the plan, "there should be no debate, absolutely none, even among the immigrant community." The estimated 12-20 million illegal aliens who are generally following the U.S. laws would not be targeted under the legislation.

The reaction from La Raza was a "Sorry, Charlie" message.

The plan "is still bad legislation," said a statement released on the group's website. It would "compel overworked, untrained law enforcement personnel into enforcing complex federal immigration laws, in addition to fulfilling their other duties."

The plan "undermines the ability of law enforcement to do its job and compromises public safety," said a statement from Janet Murguia, NCLR president. "That stance has earned us yet another hit piece from Congressman Norwood in which he calls us 'radical' and 'un-American.' In a Dear Colleague letter today, Congressman Luis Gutierrez listed more than 100 law enforcement organizations and officials who also oppose the (legislation) for the same reasons we do. Surely Rep. Norwood doesn't believe that they are 'radical' and 'un-American,' too."

"This bill will finally bring enough personnel to the fight that we can have a chance of winning if the Senate will simply do their duty," Norwood said. "This gives them a single, simple bill to pass that will turn the tables on criminal aliens, if the other body will simply stand up for American citizens instead of lobbyists."

"If Americans don't wake up now, they'll wake up one day soon to find their nation has been stolen by La Raza and pals," said Norwood.

La Raza is a traitorist orginization that should be have it's funding pulled immediately. American safety is at stake from violent illegals and Janet Murguia does not want to arrests them!!! :twisted: :twisted

If you fled a land because of poverty and corruption and abuses of women and children......you'd think that "better" life would be more than just money. But no....it's as if they want it. Yes, this would be the ones that entered the country illegally and are committing idenity theft by using stolen or fake social security numbers and other stolen or fake documents.

I hope Lou Dobbs has Ms. Murgia on. She should explain herself for wanting to advocate violent crime on our streets and not want to round of violent illegals. :evil:

It would be great if Lou Dobbs researched this woman's address and mapped it out and told the illegal aliens on TV that this woman's house is a safe haven for you guys. We should do this to everyone including politicans that support the invasion. When they experience what we are experiencing, maybe then they will wise up. I just can't to see the how the OBL politicans react when god forbid some illegal alien kills one of their own. They will get no sympathy from me, that is for sure.

Norwood letter blasting immigrants may break House rules

In what may have been a violation of ethics rules, Congressman Charlie Norwood (R-GA) issued a press release yesterday slamming pro-immigrant groups and their supporters in Congress, RAW STORY has learned.

In a letter dated yesterday and on official House of Representatives letterhead, Norwood went so far as to call on voters to elect out of office any member of congress who failed to support a bill that would empower different law enforcement groups to work in concert to arrest and deport illegal immigrants.

But House Administration rules prohibit congressmen and senators from using their legislative offices to conduct electioneering activities.

Members of the House Administration committee did not immediately respond to an email and call for comment.

The National Council of La Raza, (NCLR) the main group targeted by Norwood, issued a rejoinder demanding an apology and requesting that he reimburse the U.S. Treasury for any misused funds.

In yet another response today, Norwood issued a conditional apology, contingent upon a series of demands to NCLR--including renouncing any claims that any current U.S. territory rightfully belongs to Mexico.

Norwood says the bill does not target the majority of the 12-20 million illegal immigrants in America, but only serious felons.

"That's impossible, and that's why we keep seeing convicted child molesters, rapists, and murderers turned back on our streets instead of being deported. Norwood called for all law-abiding American citizens to call their House member and demand a yes vote for the bill. Norwood Offers Conditioned Apology to La Raza

(Washington, DC) - U.S. Rep. Charlie Norwood today offered to issue an apology to the National Council of La Raza for statements made in an earlier news release which accused the organization of association with and support of anti-American and racist groups, on the condition NCLR would agree in writing to the following seven points, and publish the seven points with unequivocal NCLR endorsement of the same prominently on their website:

• 1. Denounce and sever all ties with MEChA and any other organizations with which they are now or have ever been associated or funded which held to the racist doctrines published by MEChA.
  
  2. Denounce the statement "For La Raza to do. Fuera de La Raza nada," as repugnant, racist, and totally incompatible with American society or citizenship.
  
  3. Repudiate all claims that any current American territory rightfully belongs to Mexico.
  
  4. Acknowledge the right of all Americans to live wherever they choose in the United States, and that no section or region of this country should be segregated by race or ethnic heritage.
  
  5. Commit to sponsorship of nationwide educational programs to combat racism and anti-Semitism in the Hispanic community.
  
  6. Seek neutral, third party supervision to ensure that all community and individual assistance programs offered by La Raza and groups supported by La Raza are accessible to all Americans, regardless of race or ethnicity, and that participation in those programs is fully compliant with Equal Opportunity laws.
  
  7. Acknowledge the internationally recognized borders of the United States, the right of the citizens of the United States to determine immigration policy through the democratic process, and the right of the United States to undertake any and all necessary steps including military action to effectively enforce immigration law and defend its borders against unauthorized entry.

Norwood further requested that NCLR immediately release records of how much of the organization's funds are being used to lobby Congress for specific legislative initiatives. NCLR mounted a nationwide lobbying drive this week in a failed attempt to block immigration reform in the House of Representatives. The organization is registered with the IRS as a 501c3 non-profit charity, which is strictly limited by IRS rules in their ability to lobby Congress or other legislative bodies, or conduct get-out-the-vote campaigns.

La Raza would never, never agree to any of the above and Norwood knows it. Good for him!

Georgia lawmaker offers conditional apology to Latino group

A Georgia Republican says he'll apologize to a national Latino advocacy group he accused of supporting racism and illegal immigration, but only if the organization agrees to a list of conditions.

In a press release this week, Rep. Charlie Norwood called the National Council of La Raza a "radical," "anti-American" organization that "supports racist groups calling for the secession of the western United States as a Hispanic-only homeland."

The Washington-based group, which has regularly testified before Congress and is one of the leading Hispanic advocacy organizations in the country, emphatically denies those characterizations and says the lawmaker is spreading misinformation about its work.

"His accusations in his press release were patently false," said Cecilia Munoz, vice president of NCLR. "We've attempted to clarify the record multiple times and we've offered to meet with him and he continues to insist on a bizarre interpretation of our work. The record should be very clear by now."

Norwood, a six-term congressman from Augusta, acknowledges that the group itself does not promote racist or separatist policies. But it cites the council's association with a leftist student group called MEChA that has branches at college campuses across the country, some of which advocate for retaking U.S. land that once belonged to Mexico.

He particularly points to a $2,500 grant the council gave in 2003 to the Georgetown University MEChA branch, which calls for the political liberation of Latinos from repressive foreigners.

The donation represents a tiny portion of the millions of dollars in grants that NCLR gave to health clinics, housing organizations, community centers and local advocacy groups that year.

But John Stone, a spokesman for Norwood, said it is significant.

"If the Heritage Foundation gave one small donation to the Aryan Brotherhood, I think that would cause quite a stir," Stone said.

Norwood is simply asking the NCLR to renounce MEChA beliefs, he said.

In a press release offering a conditional apology, Norwood asked NCLR to sever all ties with MECha and its "racist doctrines," to repudiate all claims that any American territory belongs to Mexico, and to seek outside supervision to ensure that all NCLR-sponsored programs do not discriminate.

Munoz said its position on those issues is clear. The "subgrant" NCLR gave was for a college student group which she said was doing "very good leadership work and it had no relationship to this ideology that the congressman associates with MEChA."

"I don't think he understands much about the Latino community or organizations at all and I'm sorry he's avoiding opportunities to learn the truth," she said.

Norwood has feuded with NCLR for years over the organization's opposition to immigration measures that Norwood supports, such as a bill that passed the House this week affirming the authority of all U.S. law enforcement agencies to enforce immigration laws.

She probably has some relatives they are looking for.....that's the only logical reason for such irrational statements. I just can't wrap my head around how giving someone the authority to arrest violent criminals "compromises public safety." :roll: As far as the "untrained" officers understanding "complex???" immigration laws, I'm sure they are no more complex than "Do you have a ID?" I wouldn't worry about their ability to do their duty and btw their "normal duties" are arresting criminals, which includes all your illegal alien pals. That woman puts a whole new face on the word "disgusting."

Guess if La Raza has their way this country will become as corrupt as Mexico. Unbelievable they don't want criminals arrested.
