Offers to Wed Illegal Woman Facing Deportation

*THIS IS FROM THE STORY I POSTED YESTERDAY*

'Kind gentlemen' offer to wed woman who faces deportation
UPDATE | Woman gets proposals, lawmaker's aid

It's not exactly romantic, or even legal, but marriage proposals are rolling in for a French national from West Beverly facing deportation.

Four men contacted Corina Turcinovic's attorney to offer their hand in marriage after reading about her plight in the Sun-Times.

"I said to the guys, 'Your offer is very welcome, but it's not something you can do because it's an illegal marriage,' " attorney John D. Colbert said.

But things could be looking up for the 43-year-old widow, in jail since Dec. 28 for overstaying her permission to enter the U.S. She came in 1990 to care for her paralyzed fiance, who died in 2004.

Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Chicago) today plans to introduce a measure that would grant her legal residency. It's a long shot, but Colbert hopes it could lead to her release while the bill is pending.

Turcinovic, from jail, sent thanks "from the bottom of my heart" to Lipinski and those who have helped. "I am deeply touched," she said. "If nothing else, this will keep me happy for a long time."

As for the proposals, she thanked the "kind gentlemen" and got a good laugh at all of the interest.

She came here after her fiance, Maro, was hit by a car while visiting the U.S. A mistake left him a quadriplegic. Turcinovic arrived, cared for him and married him.

But Maro died just before he could become a U.S. citizen and help his wife stay. Lipinski said a "bureaucratic mistake" stalled Maro's citizenship.

"I do not condone the breaking of U.S. immigration law, but I believe Corina's special situation merits reconsideration," Lipinski said.

It's absolutely outrageous that our representatives stand up for criminals and illegals and reject the will of the American people. Remember those who fail us.

ITA. There are thousands of illegal aliens of polish and Irish descent that have been here for decades. It's the Chicagoland area's best kept, long running secret. Most have never learned English and they live in their racist, all polish/Irish white enclaves. They have political clout/protection.

She lives in an area of Chicago where those of a certain ethnicity here from the "old country" stick together and support one another based solely on race/ethnicity. I'd like to say I'm surprised but I'd be lying. Mark my words she will get amnesty.

According to immigration law you cannot marry someone for your green card if you are illegally. If you come here from another country and have been here for less than 6 months you can but if you are over you are out of luck.

Trust me Lipinski has the clout to pull the strings and this illegal alien will quietly get her citizenship and you won't hear another peep from the media. That story planted today was to gauge the reaction from the general public so that they can plan how to handle the situation.

The men should be charged, tried, and stripped of their citizenship and exhiled.
