As Obama, Castro thaw relations, many Cubans coming across Texas border

Most Cubans are coming across the Texas border rather than braving the treacherous waters to reach Miami — for decades the more traditional route — and many are landing in Houston, drawn by the city's proximity to the border, low housing costs and plentiful job opportunities.

Of the nearly 18,000 Cubans who arrived at U.S. ports of entry between October and March, 67 percent came through Laredo, according to the most recent U.S. Border Patrol statistics. In all, more than 17,400 Cubans crossed the border last year, the most in the past five years and a 217 percent increase since 2010.

Though President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro agreed Wednesday to reopen embassies in each other's capitals, restoring diplomatic ties after 54 years in what Obama called a "historic step forward," there's little sign the flow of Cubans will slow.

Local resettlement agencies say Cubans now make up more than half of their case loads as a growing number fear normalizing U.S.-Cuba relations could make them lose their long-standing immigration benefit. The 1966 Cuban Adjustment Act, intended to protect those fleeing communism, grants any Cuban who reaches the U.S. a much-coveted green card, making them the only nationality in the world with such an expedited track to American citizenship.

We cannot deny truth, it must be acknowledged. Congress has no clue how to stop Obama's policy on migrants/aliens. But worse than that they do not have one ounce of will to stop it or end it. The worst is that the American people have not shown any recognizable effort for ending it either!
