Latest count shows 20,000 Border Patrol Agents on the southern border.
Plus 1,200 National Guard Troops
more new Custom Agents and
new unmaned drones.
Sept. 18, 2010
"The $600 million bill recently approved by Congress will pay for 1,000 new Border Patrol agents, 250 new Customs and Border Protection officers, and two unmanned aerial drones to provide surveillance on the U.S. side of the border.
Of the 1,200 National Guard Troops, Arizona will get 524, Texas will get 250, California will get 224 and New Mexico will get 72, with the remainder serving in supervisory or support positions.
The Border Patrol is better staffed than at any time in its 85-year history, having doubled the number of agents from approximately 10,000 in 2004 to more than 20,000 today . . .NO AMNESTY

JohnDoe2: I remember this. But I don't recall it being totally implemented. Seems like some troops were sent here, but not 524. And it seems like it was only for a short period of time......All of them were assigned to the entry ports which still leaves miles and miles of unmanned territory.
However, the AZ Senate passed this one and sent it to the House. http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/dpp/news/wa ... 3-03092011 "A bill approved by the Arizona Senate would broaden the governor's power to form a state military force other than the National Guard."
"The bill approved Tuesday and sent to the House on a 21-9 vote would let the governor establish the new force "for any reason the governor considers to be necessary."
If this flies, we may be able to really beef up our border patrols.

Why is it we keep hearing the border is more secure than it has ever been? The illegal obviously don't think it's very secure, especially if they are coming in such large groups.

This is the kind of work they are doing.
The Border Patrol says it now has nearly 130 modern detection and surveillance systems of various kinds deployed in Arizona.
The National Guard locates them and alerts the Border Patrol to go pick them up.NO AMNESTY

It shouldn't be very difficult to detect such large groups. However, I suspect the smaller groups are having a lot more success eluding the so-called "modern detection and surveillance systems."

If that were the case...they should be able to detect a rodent crossing the border...So why are they still getting as far as Wikieup?
