ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -An illegal immigrant is expected to be handed over to federal authorities after pleading guilty to killing a man while driving in Albertville.

Juan Gomez Jorge, 38, received time served Tuesday.

Jorge received a five-year sentence for leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, but the judge split the sentence to serve eight months.

Jorge was charged in July of 2014 after he hit 23-year-old Bradley Benefield on Highway 205 in Albertville.

Defense attorneys say toxicology reports indicate Benefield had a high level of methamphetamine in his system at the time of the accident.

ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -The Marshall County Coroner said the victim in an Albertville hit-and-run died, leaving the man arrested in the case open to possible further charges.

It happened just after 11 p.m. Tuesday on Baltimore Avenue near Willow Creek Apartments.

Police said a 23-year-old man was crossing Baltimore Avenue around 11:05 when he was struck by a vehicle.
That vehicle then fled the scene, traveling northbound.

Assistant Chief Jamie Smith said 38-year-old Juan Gomez Jorge faces a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident. The man told investigators he is an illegal alien from Guatemala staying in Albertville.

Marshall County Coroner Marlon Killian confirmed late Wednesday night that the victim died at Huntsville Hospital. The name of the victim has not been released at this time.

Smith said that charges against Jorge could be upgraded to manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, or murder.

Just another uncounted statistic. FBI files give no acknowledgement that these ever happen. And some people become upset with me when I say that I would never convict upon FBI evidence. I have a lot more evidence that the FBI lies more than I have evidence of their honesty, do I not? Remember the Ruby Ridge fiasco and the cover-ups.
