ACLU of Mass. sues ICE for records of official’s February presentation

The ACLU of Massachusetts is suing US Immigration and Customs Enforcement to force the agency to release information regarding “immigration updates” that one of its top officials gave to a law enforcement association in February, according to the group.

ICE’s Acting Deputy Director Matthew Albence addressed the annual winter conference of the National Sheriffs’ Association on Feb. 10 in Washington, D.C., according to the suit.

The ACLU learned of Albence’s presentation from a Bristol County sheriff’s office tweet. The group filed a public records request seeking written remarks, slides, handouts, recordings, and correspondence between ICE and sheriffs from Massachusetts regarding Albence’s address, the group said.
According to a schedule of the sheriff’s association’s conference included in the suit, Albence’s presentation was called “Immigration Updates.”

ICE, through a spokesman, declined to comment on Wednesday, “as this is active litigation.”
