A border wall between the U.S. and Mexico has been proven effective, so the U.S. should build it, according to acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement director Thomas Homan.
"The border wall is a good tool.... We have proven it worked. Why would we not want to do it?" Honam said Tuesday on Fox News' “America's Newsroom.”
The acting director blasted California for its sanctuary state policy. "Sanctuary cities don't want to fund a border wall to keep illegal aliens out, but they want to fund sanctuary cities to keep illegal aliens in," he said.
The state's governor, Jerry Brown, said the policy does not interfere with the work of ICE or the Department of Homeland Security.
"He ought to read his bill," Homan said. The California bill bars local law enforcement from asking immigration questions, from detaining criminals for ICE, and from letting Homeland Security know when such people are released, Homan said in the Fox News interview.
"To enter this country illegally is a crime. We can't forget that. That is a message that has been lost in the last decade," Homan said in the interview.
On Sunday, the White House presented a list of demands for actions that must be taken to allow Dreamers, people brought to the country illegally when they were children, to remain in the U.S., including fully funding the border wall.
