Oct. 31, 2013 – Violent criminal alien sentenced for obstructing his removal from the US

An Albanian man illegally present in the United States was sentenced to four years in federal prison Oct. 29 for hampering his removal from the country. He refused to comply with instructions from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) to board removal flights to his country of origin. Full Story

Oct. 30, 2013 – Indian corporation pays record $34 million fine to settle allegations of systemic visa fraud and abuse of immigration processes

Infosys Limited, an Indian company involved in consulting, technology and outsourcing, has agreed to a record $34 million civil settlement based on allegations of systemic visa fraud and abuse of immigration processes, and also agreed to enhanced corporate compliance measures. The $34 million payment made by Infosys as a result of these allegations represents the largest payment ever levied in an immigration case. Full Story

Oct. 31, 2013 – 25 sentenced following Houston HSI Operation 'Prison Cell' RICO investigation

Global health care giant Johnson & Johnson (J&J) and its subsidiaries will pay more than $2.2 billion to resolve criminal and civil liability arising from allegations relating to the prescription drugs Risperdal, Invega and Natrecor, including promotion for uses not approved as safe and effective by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and payment of kickbacks to physicians and to the nation’s largest long-term care pharmacy provider.

APCO Liquidating Trust to Pay United States $14 Million in Cost Recoveries to Settle Longstanding Bankruptcy Litigation

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware approved a settlement agreement today between the United States and the APCO Liquidating Trust (a successor in interest to APCO Oil Corporation). The settlement follows seven years of litigation concerning the APCO Liquidating Trust’s liability under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA or “Superfund”) for costs incurred by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the ongoing cleanup of the Oklahoma Refining Company (ORC) Superfund Site located in Cyril, Okla.
