TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Border Patrol officials kept busy with drug seizures and an arrest over the holiday.

Authorities said a K-9 unit alerted officials to a Ford Mustang at the Interstate 19 checkpoint Friday, which led to the discovery of an illegal immigrant in the trunk.

In a separate incident Saturday, police tried to pull over a white Chevrolet Tahoe with a government license plate, but the driver sped away. The driver later abandoned the vehicle near the border and fled into Mexico, according to Border Patrol officials. Agents found 1,654 pounds of marijuana, worth about $872,000, in the car and later discovered the license plate was fake and the car was not government owned.

Police seized the drugs and vehicles from both cases.
