Agents seize $8.8 million worth of cocaine

BROWNSVILLE — Border Patrol agents Wednesday stopped a group of people carrying duffel bags that contained nearly $9 million worth of cocaine, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.

The agents were responding to reports of suspicious activity on a ranch near Laredo. The group dropped the bags and swam back across the Rio Grande to Mexico. No arrests were made.

The bags contained 10 bundles of cocaine weighing 277 pounds, with an estimated street value of $8.8 million.
