U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Sector seized approximately 361 pounds of marijuana near Gila Bend on Wednesday and arrested a known sex offender in a separate incident the following day.

Agent Robert Lowry, a spokesman for the Yuma Sector Communications Division, said that in the marijuana seizure, agents assigned to Wellton Station were conducting roving patrol duties when they located foot prints approximately two miles west of Gila Bend.

He said the agents then began following the foot prints and immediately located nine makeshift backpacks containing 15 bundles of marijuana.

As agents continued to track the foot prints, Lowry said they eventually located six individuals who were still in the vicinity of the backpacks.

The marijuana, with an estimated street value of $288,800, as well as one of the subjects, was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

U.S. Border Patrol agents from Yuma also arrested a known sex offender in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The man, Nicolas Reyes Olvera-Rosales, was arrested at a traffic checkpoint operated by Border Patrol agents assigned to the Blythe Station.

During processing, agents learned that Olvera-Rosales had been convicted as a sex offender for the charge of “Sex with a minor 3 years or younger.â€
