Americans citing immigration as top problem highest in 2 years

Americans are increasingly likely to name immigration as the top problem facing the country.

A new Gallup poll shows 10 percent of those surveyed cite immigration as the nation's most serious problem - that's up from two percent just one month ago. It's also the highest level Gallup has recorded in more than two years.

The poll also shows increased concern over immigration is highest in the West and among Republicans and conservatives.

This comes as the federal government considers suing over Arizona's tough new immigration law. Attorney General Eric Holder says possible grounds for the lawsuit would be that Arizona's law could lead to civil rights violations.

Did I get that right? We're talking about suing over something that hasn't even happened yet?

All this does is further muddy the issue. After all, it was the lack of federal enforcement of current laws that led Arizona to do this in the first place.

Meanwhile, as Arizona's longtime senator John McCain fights for re-election, he's all over the place on immigration. After years of criticizing a border fence, McCain now calls for completion of the "danged" fence.

It's difficult to know what John McCain believes anymore except that he is willing to say anything in order to to try to get re-elected - whether it conflicts with his earlier positions or not. He should lose the election just based on his willingness to sell out his principles. He didn't used to be this way.

Here’s my question to you: What does it mean if the number of Americans citing immigration as the nation's top problem is the highest in two years?

People are trying to hang onto what they have worked for and our government keeps giving our money to banks, who have cheated us, countries who don't like us and illegals who don't belong here. We are fed up.

For us in Arizona it means: Mind your own business to the rest of the country. We're the ones who are suffering, so we're the ones who will deal with it. As for the meddlers like the L.A. city council, who decide to boycott us, remember who has a bigger tourist venue. Boycotts work both ways. No Disney this year for this family!

Immigration is NOT the problem. Illegal immigration IS. I've never been in Arizona, but I will spend my vacation there in August.

It means the nation is finally waking up to the reality of a system that needs fixing. What astonishes me is that our elected leaders are running from this issue in order to protect their own careers. And McCain, oh forget him. I used to respect the guy. But he is becoming increasingly (and deservedly) irrelevant.

I've watched the government solve the "illegal immigration problem" about four or five times in my lifetime. I expect nothing but the same old stuff this time around. And I don't mean "stuff." The government will give amnesty to the current 12 million. In ten years, we can all meet again to talk about amnesty for the next 12 million. Same as it ever was.

It means we're fed up. Everyone benefits except the middle class. The rich get richer and the average citizen gets screwed. The Republicans want slave labor and the Democrats want the illegals' votes. We just want secure borders and someone to care about us.

Some fool in the comments section proposes that Obama just issue an executive order and CIR done. The sooner the better. Somebody buy that guy a bus ticket south.
