114 LA workers file complaints over immigration raid

114 LA workers file complaints over immigration raid
    Saturday, April 26, 2008

    (04-26) 06:49 PDT , CA (AP) --

LOS ANGELES — More than 100 employees of a Los Angeles printer supply manufacturer say they were illegally detained during a February raid by federal immigration agents.

Authorities say 138 people were arrested Feb. 7 at Micro Solutions Enterprises for immigration violations and other crimes.

But 114 other workers there filed complaints this week seeking $5,000 apiece. Those workers all are U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents and claim armed federal agents shouted at them to show proof of legal U.S. residency during the four-hour raid.

A statement released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement says the search was conducted properly.

The complaints were filed with ICE and the Department of Homeland Security.

When my husband went through the immigration process, he was told to ALWAYS carry his green card with him. He was told that one of the conditions of the green card was to produce it to prove status by ANY government official, police officer, ect who requested it. Failure to carry the card could be punished by a fine, or in certain cases, revocation of the card and deportation.

A valid drivers license or social security card MIGHT be proof of citizenship. I have been known to carry my passport with me. IF I should ever be detained until proof is provided, I would have no problem with that (as long as I was not put in a cell with violent criminals or perverts lol). Our laws need to be enforced!

i am legal immigrant and now a US Citizen. I would have no problems whatsoever - ICE would have no reasons to shout at me. If you are here legally you either have a green card or proof you can work and live here or you are a Citizen and you can assert that. You can produce a birth/naturalization certificate or even a US passport. All of this is BS, these workers were probably being difficult and obstructionist to show solidarity with illegals. It's all BS.

If I was an ICE agent, I would be shouting at them too. Either they are remaining silent and refusing to anwer questions or they speak only Spanish and don't have a clue.

So these so called "American citizens" believe that being shouted out during the course of a federal immigration operation is worth $5000?

    Good luck losers!

This is no different than what would happen if a business owner was conducting any other illegal business in a back room. Their entire employees would then be detained while the police made an assessment of whether particular employees were involved knew of it or were innocent. They might have been aware of the problem but then not reported it dutifuly over to immigation. This is like a piano player suing for being busted at a brothel.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

I am asked to prove things all the time. There's some card or something that I am expected to provide on demand. Sometimes over and over again. That's why we have them. Otherwise why bother with anything? Why have a birth certificate since we can see you are here and obviously been born? Why do I keep having to show certified death certificates when they can go look at the grave stone and see they aren't here anymore? Why prove I have a drivers license if I can push go and keep between the lines and have a car? Ya....sometimes it's a pain....welcome to America. People lie and have false documents.....maybe if they didn't and people were inately honest and incapable of lying we wouldn't need so many darn papers and have to prove anything. The more illegal activity the more times you are asked to prove your innocense.....the more times you are detained for questioning. That's the way it goes.

Doesn't surprise me the officers raised their voices.....maybe they didn't want to have to say the same thing over 100 x's or maybe they had to yell to get their voice heard over 100 other yelling voices.
