Arizona bill requires ID to get food stamps

Conservatives traditionally don’t like the idea of national identification cards, citing Orwellian “big brother” fears. Those same concerns aren’t always held when it comes to trying to keep illegal immigrants from getting jobs or welfare benefits.

Some Arizona Republican lawmakers have introduced new bill at the Legislature requiring those receiving food stamps in the state to have a state-issued identification card. They would then have to produce that card and another form of identification when buying groceries via the assistance program.

Arizona Reps. Carl Seel and Jack Harper are the main sponsors. Both are Republicans.

There are 1.1 million Arizonans on food stamps and $46.2 million Americans, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Arizona House Bill 2582 is being considered by state lawmakers. It’s aimed at cutting into fraud.

On the immigration and workforce front, Republican presidential combatants Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich have talked up the idea of workplace identification cards for workers to help weed out illegal immigrant workers.

Right Idea..Stupid waste of time though. Big business will kill the bill.
In AZ food stamps and health care are mainly for the illegal alien, anchor baby/family fraud entitlement retirement plans.
Also the self check outs would be off limits which means here in anchor baby central the grocery stores would have to hire thousands of cashiers and security cops to deal with all the fraud and pissed off spoiled brat illegal alien jack pot poppers.

IIRC, using the Welfare credit card requires a valid ID at the grocery store and they have to match at the human-operated cash register, along with some type of manual approval by the cashier at the time of purchase.

Does this vary from state to state, or is it a Federal regulation?

In Arizona its, Swipe, Pin # and feed the Anchors........

Any one that has the pin # is good to go. They pass the cards around like candy at Walmart!
The amigo's sell em and use the cash to buy booze...

You can't drive without insurance in most states, you can't open a bank account without a social security card, you can't send your kids to school with out birth certificates and certain vaccines etc every year, you can't collect social security without a SS number and etc. I don't like it, but it is the way things are done.

This bill is I.D to use them, not get them.
Mike messed up on his title..They don't just give anyone a card..
At least not American citizens that need help anyway....

Thats why some times titles mislead people into the wrong idea. "read the bill".

And families who really need and deserve the help because they've been paying into the system are left short and left out completely!

You can't get food stamps without some ID(when did that change thought it was always in effect)....Again what am I missing here you think you don't need proper ID to get any of these services???? Okay!!!!

Ok...kathyet, of course you need ID to get food stamps. The illegals use their anchor baby birth certificate/SSN and usually have an advocate.
But yes,yes,yes you must have ID to apply. OK? With me so far?
Must have ID/ required documents....ya good?
So what the bill wants is for when one USES, yes "Uses" the card at the store..One swipes the card like a debit card, the cashier then see's its food stamps and then would be required BY LAW to ask for valid picture I D.
Even though they have the card..No ID,,No free food..
Do you get it now?
